one of my favourite places in the world

Waipatiki is a beach north of Napier (but in the Hastings District) on the road to Gisborne. We are hoping to spend lots of time there in the years to come. It is a golden sand beach, with no telephone service and no shops! As you can imagine, it is unspoiled and relatively undeveloped. It has masses of pohutukawas, flaxes and tuis, so when you sit quietly enjoying the solitude, the sounds are of tuis and waves breaking, bliss!

feeling patriotic!

I’m so looking forward to the rugby world cup, being a rugby fanatic from firstly my childhood, being the second daughter of a rugby-playing father (who captained the Poverty-Bay rugby team in the 1940s) and married to a rugby player for 29 years. I have watched every rugby world cup final since the first in 1987 (we moved house the day before from Aberdeen to Haronga Roads in Gisborne) and will watch each one for ever! With a son in melbourne and another in London, I’m feeling quite patriotic so please visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?watchv=w4shrCg

families!

Last weekend my daughter was chief bridesmaid at a wedding in Auckland of one of her oldest school friends, Jess. I was also invited, as Jess felt I played a significant part in her life. I do remember telling her, when she was a student in my Year 11 Science class in Gisborne, that if she didn’t do her work, she would never amount to anything! Fancy me saying that! She now is a teacher herself, in London, with a double degree in Biology and English! What did I know!

school holidays

Just finished very busy school holidays. The engineer and I spent the first week and 2 days in the second week getting my empty house all ready to rent out. It now has new carpet upstairs, newly painted master bedroom and toilet, with everything so clean you could eat your dinner off nearly every surface! I cleaned each quarry tile in the kitchen and dining room by hand! Oh so clean! Using Trademe, I had many prospective tenants look through the house, but I hit the jackpot last Tuesday when my new tenants came for a look. They are the sort of tenants everyone would wish to have live in their most precious of places. They move in tomorrow.
