In October I represented the Mayor at the YES awards held at the Mission. It was a great evening, as the senior students recounted the highs and lows they encountered during the development and selling of their new products. These innovative products ranged from a soil improver, using coffee grinds, egg shells and sawdust to a baking kit to encourage children to learn to cook. I was extremely impressed by the teamwork shown between the students, their business mentors and the teacher at school driving the scheme. In the Hastings area, Havelock North High school, Hastings Girls and Hastings Boys were all involved.
